Walter Lee Althouse, 93, died at 8:55 a.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Mason Health and Rehab Center in Warsaw. He was born in Marion to the late John and Minerva (Shriver) Althouse. He married Dorothy M. Armstrong on April 13, 1946, and she preceded him in death on October 28, 2013.

Following his graduation from Marion High School, Walter enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II (from 1942-1945) in the First Armored Division in Africa and Europe. Following his military service, he worked with the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. He served over 37 years until his retirement in 1981.

Walter loved to fish, golf, play pool, hunt, and work in his garden. He and Dorothy spent many winters in Florida, and he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his children, John Althouse, Peru, Steven (Susan) Althouse, Jonesboro, and Keith A. Althouse, Rochester; grandchildren, Eric, Jason, Lisa, Steve, Lori, Kerri, Brian, Michelle, Stephanie, Nathan, and Adam; 25 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Phillips; and sister-in-law, Margie Vice.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughters-in-law, Linda Althouse and Robin Althouse; granddaughter-in-law, Christina Althouse.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Integrity Funeral Care, 2901 S. Washington St., Marion. Services begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
