Walter C. “Walt” McCann, 49 of Huntington passed away at 10:55 pm on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at his residence. Moving to Huntington in August of 1978, he was a 1985 graduate of Huntington North High School. He had spent three years in the United States Army; he trained at Fort Knox, Kentucky and spent time in both South Korea and Lacota, Oklahoma. Walt worked at Breyers Ice Cream for ten years and then at the Huntington County Jail since 2002. He spent sixteen years in the Boy Scouts attaining Eagle Scout and was a camp counselor at Little Turtle in Angola. Walt enjoyed weight lifting at Champs Strength Athletics, video gaming, trap and skeet shooting. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
Walt was born on July 17, 1967 in Brighton, Massachusetts, the son of Walter V. and Madelyne (Abbott) McCann, Jr.
Survivors include his son: Aric McCann of Huntington; his mother: Madelyne McCann of Huntington; two brothers: Michael (Kat) McCann of New Jersey; Kevin (Brandi) McCann of Wabash; two sisters: Michelle McCann and Kathleen McCann both of Huntington; two nieces and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father: Walter V. McCann, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00 am with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Wally Morris officiating.
Interment will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
