W. Charlene Oatess, 87, Marion, received her eternal reward at 5:19 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, in Marion General Hospital. She was born in Gas City to Charles Tyler and Maxine (Phillips) Winchell. On August 14, 1949, Charlene married Richard Walton Oatess, and he survives.

Charlene was a loving wife and a lifetime homemaker. She and her husband loved to travel together and were very active in the small groups at First Christian Church in Marion, where she was a member. Later in life, Charlene volunteered for Marion General Hospital working in the gift shop for 16 years.

She enjoyed being a member of numerous bridge clubs throughout the years and was also active in a bunco club. As a member of an antique study group, she visited many places.

She will be forever remembered by her husband of 67 years, Richard; three children, LeeAnn (Robert) Stephan, Valparaiso, Rick (Terri) Oatess, Bluffton, and Rob (Susan) Oatess, Evansville; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and a niece, Julie Autry.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Winchell.

The family will receive visitors from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion.

A Celebration of Life service for Charlene will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017, at the funeral home with Rev. Roslyn Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Estates of Serenity.
