Von S. Pence, 82, died at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Colonial Oaks Health Care Center in Marion. He was born in Converse to the late Solomon and Ona (Nestleroad) Pence and was a lifelong resident of Converse. He married Betty Lou Leisure on January 16, 1954, and they shared 62 years together until she passed away on February 24, 2016.
Von graduated from Converse High School and was a self-employed carpenter throughout most of his life. He had also worked at Grant County Highway Department. Von was a big motorcycle fan, especially Harley-Davidson, and he loved being outdoors, whether it was hunting and fishing or working on cars in his garage.
He is survived by his siblings, Marcia Butler and Sherrill (Carole) Pence, both from Marion; nieces and nephews, Susie Ruley, Marion, Donnie (Donna) Butler, Sweetser, Steve Butler, Marion, Kyle (Tawnya) Sturtsman, Greentown, Robin (Judy) Dean and David (Robin) Dean, both from Cary, Florida, and Michael Dean, Arizona; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents and loving wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Pence.
The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Integrity Funeral Care, 2901 S. Washington St., Marion.
Von’s funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will follow at Converse Cemetery.
