Victor “Vic” F. Ireland, II, 59, Marion, Indiana, passed away at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, with his mother and father at his side at Miller’s Merry Manor in Marion. He was born on October 21, 1957, in Marion to Victor and Ethel (Hines) Ireland and was the oldest of five children.

Vic was a huge sports fan. He loved the Indianapolis Colts, the Chicago Cubs, and the Nebraska Huskers. He also loved to cook, often making dinner for friends, loved woodworking, fishing, golf, and bowling, and he was an avid reader. Vic moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1990 where he led an enjoyable life surrounded with many friends. His career included owning and running a successful concrete business and then a vending business after losing his eyesight nearly 15 years ago. Vic was very involved with the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and was grateful for the opportunities they afforded him and the many friendships he made.

Vic was originally diagnosed with colon cancer nine years ago. It went into remission until June of last year when it came back as bone cancer. He moved back to Indiana this past February to be closer to his family during his final days. He was an amazing fighter and never complained.

In addition to his parents, Vic and Ethel, he is survived by best friend, Laurie Jacobsen, Lincoln, Nebraska; his son, Zachary Ireland, Lafayette; brother, Doug (Sherri) Ireland, Garner, North Carolina; and sisters, Stacey (Steve) Walter, Lima, Ohio, Jennifer (Chris) Potee, Noblesville, and Janelle (Rob) Olds, Carmel.

A memorial visitation will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

The Ireland family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Family Life Care Hospice and all of the staff at Miller’s Merry Manor for their attentiveness and loving care.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Victor’s name to The Nebraska Commission for the Blind, 4600 Valley Rd., Ste. 100, Lincoln, NE 68510 (or online at https://ncbvi.nebraska.gov/), and to Family Life Care Hospice, 705 S. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN 46953.
