Verlin W. “Turk” Dennis, age 84, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 at 1:50 am at Markle Health and Rehabilitation. He was a 1949 graduate of Roanoke High School and retired government employee. He was a 50-year member of Roanoke Lodge #195 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne, Roanoke Jaycees, Roanoke Town Board for 12 years, and Roanoke Volunteer Fire Department for 18 years.
Turk was born April 26, 1931, in Roanoke, the son of Elda Eldin and Wilda Marie (Shroyer) Dennis. On June 21, 1950 he married his beloved wife Eva Marie Wolf in Wabash and she passed away June 30, 1967. He is survived by a daughter JoEllen (Greg) Morris of Roanoke, 3 sons Mike (Linda) Dennis of Fort Wayne, Jon (Karla) Dennis of Roanoke, and Matt (Tara) Dennis of Roanoke, 5 grandchildren Michelle (Chris) Ruppert of Fort Wayne, Wayne (Stephanie) Dennis of Madison, Wisconsin, Jennifer Dennis of Fort Wayne, Zach (Mary Ellen) Morris of Indianapolis, and Ashley (Brandon) Kitt of Roanoke, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters Marilyn Crickmore of Ossian and Pat VanLandingham of Huntington. He was preceded in death by a sister Betty Jane Dennis and a great granddaughter Rachel Marie Ruppert.
Visitation will be held Wednesday March 30 from 4-8 pm with a Masonic service at 7:00 pm at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes, and 1 hour prior to the 11:00 am funeral service Thursday March 31 at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Hines officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.
