Thomas M “Tom”. Monahan, 71, formerly of Fairmount, died Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

Tom was born in Marion, Indiana on August 13, 1945, son of the late Fred Monahan and Reba (Corn) Monahan who survives in Fairmount. After graduation from Fairmount High School in 1963, Thomas served six years in the National Guard, attended Ball State University and Indiana Business College. Tom worked in construction building pole barns and most recently as pastor of the First Assembly of God in Gun Barrel City, Texas.  Tom also worked as an enumerator for the USDA, a job he didn’t think of as work.   He had spent the last 2 1/2 years in Texas where he loved being involved in Children’s Outreach and helping those in need. Tom was a past member of Gideon’s International and enjoyed watching Westerns.  Being with family was everything to him.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara G. (Grimm) Monahan of Mabank. Four children; Patrick (Kristi) Monahan, Gordo, AL, Ryan (Sharlene) Monahan, Fort Worth, TX, Sean (Christine) Monahan, Marion, IN, and Kelly (Justin King) Monahan, Ossian, IN, sister, Patricia (Bert) Clausson, Indianapolis, IN, 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Along with his father, Tom was preeceded in death by his sister Marcia Coulter.

Arrangements have been entrusted the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana where the family will receive friends on Friday, April 14, 2017 from 4-8 PM.

Funeral service honoring Tom’s life will be on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 12 PM with Pastor David Grieve officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery, Fairmount, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Assembly of God Outreach Program in care of the funeral home.
