Sylvia was born in Edmonton, Kentucky on June 2, 1927 to the late Sherman and Lillian (Wilson) Garmon. She passed away on August 14, 2016 in Wesleyan Health Care Center, Marion.
Sylvia came to Marion in 1946 and on December 2, 1946 she married James E. Stevens. He preceded her in death in 1980. During her working years, Sylvia worked for Foster Forbes, Oak Hill School and Marion Community Schools and later Marion College in food service. In her free time she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening and reading. She was a member of Sweetser Wesleyan Church.
Sylvia is survived by two children, George L. (Bonnie) Stevens, Gas City; Ann (James) Cramer, Marion; brother, Lewis Garmon, Alexandria; three grandchildren, Aaron (Lynn) Stevens, Amy L. Stevens and Scott Stevens; four great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Stevens, Colin Stevens, Blake Ross and Justin Starr. She is also preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Garmon and Leon Garmon.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11 am in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Gas City Chapel, 200 North 7th Street, Gas City, Indiana with Rev. David Parker officiating.
Burial will immediately follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion. Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, August 18, 2016 in the funeral home.
