Sylvia Diane Garcia, 53, Marion, died at 8:20 p.m. in her home on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. A lifetime resident of Grant County, she was born in Marion to the late Guadalupe “Lupe” and Aurora (Yanis) Garcia. On October 30, 2017, Sylvia married Katherine “Kathy” J. Niverson, and she survives.
Sylvia attended Marion High School and worked at Thomson Consumer Electronics (formerly RCA) in Marion. She enjoyed being outdoors, especially camping and fishing. She also liked walking the trails at the Salamonie, exploring the old town before it was filled in for the season. Sylvia was a strong, good-hearted, and ambitious woman who loved her family and friends. In her later moments, despite battling cancer, she still enjoyed her time, even working on her home. She will be missed by many.
She is also survived by her siblings, Robert J. (Angelina) Garcia, Michael G. (Kathy) Garcia, and Michelle R. (Dennis Goins) Guillen, all from Marion; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and her dogs, Lucy and Gracie.
Her sister, Kimberly Dawn Garcia, also preceded her in death.
Family and friends may call from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Services for Sylvia will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 6, 2017. Father Richard Weisenberger will be officiating with a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Grant Memorial Park.
