Something Special

larry-crandellThink About It.  Something Special. It seems like only 40 years ago we first met.  Actually I only saw you, in your recognized role as the official Toastmaster of Santa Barbara.  Introducing Fess Parker, you joked about your usually uncompensated appearances by acknowledging pleasure at the “psychic income” they provided. Your clear insight mixed with subtle but acute wit, made me a fan. Where or when we actually met, I honestly don’t remember.

My memory is very clear however on the subject of who I called when I wanted to gather together the largest possible group of local investors for a worthwhile business venture.  It had to be the person who knew and was respected by the most  involved leaders in the community.  You can be sure Larry, you proved to be the best, perhaps the only, choice.

I never knew for certain how you made a living that permitted the freedom to be where people were providing events of value.  Your penchant for modest presentation and shunning the apparent leadership positions has made it possible for you to present and be in the presence of an amazing number of the movers and shakers in Santa Barbara and the nation.

When I was at a low in my life, you came calling to offer positive thoughts meant to lift my spirits and move me to new success. You’ll never know the rich rewards that ensued. Yes, the best were “psychic”.

Year after year, Silver Tongue   is wherever good is being done or a friend needs help.  Larry, it’s a pleasure to wish you a Happy Birthday.  Don’t say it.  This is not your eulogy.  It just seems to me that you are someone special.  And that is Something Special.  Think About It.

Something Special was first published April 5, 2014. After a full and amazing life, Larry did give up this life at age 93. You might want to know more.
