Shirley Marie (Schram) Gahs, age 86, Peru, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 1:30pm at Rolling Meadows Health Care, LaFontaine, IN, after an extended battle with dementia.
She was born on March 10th, 1930 to Walter Russell and Maggie Mae (Martin) Schram, Peru. She married her beloved husband LaVaughn “Bun” A. Gahs on September 4th, 1948 and was by his side when he passed on November 24th, 2008.
She was the proud mother to six children, Kathy Kranz and husband Joe, Peru, Lavita Berglan and husband Jim, Peru, Linda Hegg and the late Darryl, Phoenix, AZ, Lanette Combs and husband Jeff, Peru, Lanita Ferre’ and husband Kerry, Peru and Danny Gahs and wife Michele, Peru. Shirley was a dear grandmother to Carrie, Kevin, Heath, Matt, Becky, Amanda, Eric, Erin, Tyler, Alicia, Emily, Ethan, Emma, Eden, and Emmett. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Madelyn, Macee, Makenna, Kendal, Kyle, Christopher, Lucas, Xavier, Dominick, Ada, Ryne, Nathan, Stephen, and Oliver.
Survivors include her dear brother Russell Eugene (Gene) Schram and wife Martha, and beloved sister-in-law Jenny Schram.
Shirley was a homemaker and farmer who lived in Miami County all her life. She cared for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren from her home over the course of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband LaVaughn Alton Gahs, her parents Walter and Maggie Schram, a sister Kate Myers (Schram), brother Jack Schram, and an infant daughter.
Funeral services will be held at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W. Third St. Peru, IN 46970. Visitation will be Sunday November 27th, 2016 from 2pm — 5pm at the funeral home. Services will be held Monday November 28th 2016 at 10:00am officiated by Tom Daughtery with burial to follow at Peoria Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Danny Gahs, Joe Kranz, Jim Berglan, Jeff Combs, Kerry Ferre’, and Ethan Gahs.
