Shirley L. Stace, 78, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017, at Marion General Hospital. She was born on September 8, 1938 in Fairmount, Indiana to the late Denzil and Eva (Clark) Thompson. She married Gordon Stace on June 1, 1956 and he preceded her in death on November 14, 2003.

Shirley participated in various activities over the years. She enjoyed reading, sewing, golfing, bowling, and listening to music. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She also loved teaching Sunday School, which she did up until she recently got sick. She was even scheduled to teach this upcoming Sunday. She will be greatly missed by all of her Sunday School students. Shirley was a great quilter and was a member of the Quilters Hall of Fame. She loved to garden and loved all types of flowers. Shirley had previously served as a board member of the Council of Churches and had been the secretary and a board member of the Friendly Center Community Center. She had also been a board member and volunteer at the Barker Woods Enrichment Center. Most of all, Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She always wanted to know what the grandkids and nieces and nephews were up to. She was a very peaceful woman and loved the motto; Don’t worry about tomorrow, God is already there.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Amy Knoll, Simms, TX; son, David (Jenny) Stace, Elkhart, IN; 3 sisters, Darlene Dunham, Mary Lou (Marc) Winslow, and Janie (Dewey) Jefferies, all of Jonesboro, IN; brother-in-law, Jack (Sidenia) Stace, Marion, IN; sister-in-law, Carolyn Smith, Austin, TX; 6 grandchildren, Kristina Williams, James (Danielle) Knoll, Jory Knoll, Timothy Knoll, Brandon (Amy Leigh) Knoll, and Kayla Stace; great-grandson, Kaiden Knoll; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Phyllis Haynes, Joyce Troyer, Sharon Thompson, and Barbara Justus, 2 brothers, Dan Thompson and Bill Wigner; 3 brothers-in-law, Wilbur Justus, Milton Dunham, and Forrest Troyer; 2 sisters-in-law, Norma Wigner and Imogene Fields.

Arrangements for Shirley have been entrusted to Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services Fairmount Chapel, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, Indiana, where a visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 624 S. Adams St., Marion, Indiana, on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Colleen Harden officiating. Friends and family may also call one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park in Marion, Indiana.
