Sandra “Sandy” K. Hughes, 71, Marion, died at 7:38 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, surrounded by her family, at Lutheran Hospital. She was born in Marion, Indiana, to the late Wesley “Frank” and Geraldine (Black) Harrell. She married Paul D. Hughes, Sr., on November 17, 1962, and he survives.

Sandy was a 1962 graduate of Marion High School and a lifelong resident of Grant County. She worked as an LPN at several nursing homes in the county, as well as for the Indiana Health Center Migrant Clinic and CASA. Sandy has been a member of the Marion Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1968. She was an avid bowler and was a member of Women’s International Bowling Congress, American Bowling Congress, and Young American Bowling Association, and was inducted to the Marion Bowling Hall of Fame. She also served as an Aid for Frances Slocum Elementary School for several years. Sandy loved her family, and her community, and especially loved spoiling her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Paul; children, Paul David (Peggy) Hughes, Jr., Murray, Utah, Patrick Donald (Anita) Hughes, Owingsville, Kentucky, and Angela Diane (David) Temple, Sheridan; grandchildren, Sabrina, Erin, Adam, Andrew, Lucas, Thomas, Nathan, Derek, Cassandra, Ivana, Jacob, Emma, Christina, Abigail, and Molly; great-grandchildren, Jessie, Charles, Logan, Adam, Sophia, Morgan, Aiden, Mason, Ava, Jason, Malachi, Haylie, and one on the way; sister, Judith Alexander; brother, James Vogelman; nieces, Tammy and Donna; very special friend and cousin, Sheryl; and her special dog, Dee Dee.

In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her brother, Wesley Franklin Harrell, Jr., and nieces, Sherry, Theresa Ann, and Beth Ann.

Friends are invited to join the family for a celebration of Sandy’s life from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2016, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1465 E. Bradford St., Marion, IN.
