Sammy Jo Birner, 82, passed away on February 20, 2017.
He was born in Peru, Indiana on November 14, 1934 to Michael and Lucille (Newman) Birner. 61 years ago, he married his wife, Eclista M. Mongosa. She survives.
Sammy Jo retired as an Inspector at General Motors in Marion, Indiana. He also was a member of the Moose Lodge, and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He enjoyed travelling with his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eclista; two sons, Michael and Neal; one brother Don (Vicky); 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Joseph A. Birner.
Visitation will be held from 10:00am – 1:00pm on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. Military service will be held at the funeral home at 1:00pm, with service provided by the Miami County Military Rites Team.
