Ruth Elizabeth (Modricker) Bair

Ruth Elizabeth (Modricker) Bair, 83, passed away December 26, 2017 at University Nursing Center in Upland. Formerly of the Upland area and most recently living in Fairview Apartments in Gas City. Ruth fought a tough battle after a setback with a couple strokes in her last few months.

Born in Aden, Arabia on December 3, 1934 to the late Warren and Dorothy (Dixon) Modricker. Her parents were missionaries to the Somalis for over 50 years. She was the oldest child of six her siblings who preceded her in death are Charles, Daniel, and Mary. She is survived by her siblings John and Joy.

Ruth spent most of her younger years living in Arabia. She graduated from Siloam Springs High School in Arkansas, and later attended nursing school in Chicago.

On November 19, 1954 she married Arthur Edwin Bair in Ft. Wayne. They are the parents of Ronald, Rosemary, Rhonda, and Raymond. Ruth is the grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren.

Ruth and Arthur moved to Grant County in 1956. In May of 1967 they moved to a small farm near Upland, where they resided most of their lives. She graduated in 1985, from Graham McClain Massage Therapy School and ran her own private therapy business for several years. Ruth grew up with a love for music, and loved to play the violin, piano, organ, and loved to sing. She taught piano lessons for many years. A faithful attendee, and a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church in Marion for over 50 years where she had taught Sunday school, choir director, Awana leader, and helped with numerous events throughout the church. Ruth’s sincere devotion and love for the Lord was shown to many. Many lives have been touched and influenced by her generosity of spirit and encouragement and she will be missed by many.

Arrangements for Ruth have been entrusted to Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services Jones-Smith Chapel, 259 N. Main St., Upland, Indiana. The visitation and Funeral Service will be held at Union Chapel Baptist Church, 6049 E 300 S, Marion, IN 46953. Visitation is on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, from 4:00-8:00p.m and on Wednesday from 10:30-11:30. A funeral service celebrating Ruth’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at 11:30a.m. with Pastor Bill Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at The Marion National Cemetery. There is a time of fellowship to follow the committal service at the church.
