Ruth Alice “Peg” Christner, 98, of Warren, IN, passed away at 3:30 AM on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Heritage Pointe in Warren, IN.  She was born on Thursday, March 14, 1918, in Markle IN. Ruth graduated from Warren High School in 1935. After attending two years at Ball State College now known as University, she was hired to teach some 4th and 5th graders in Andrews, IN. After seven years there she went to teach 4th grade in Huntington. While teaching she took classes and finished two more years of college and got her degree. She started teaching in Warren, IN.  where she retired in 1983. Ruth Alice was a member of Tri Kappa, Chautaugua Club – (Reading Club), Indiana State Retired Teachers Assn., and Huntington County Retired Teachers Assn. Peg had been a member of the Warren U.M. Church known now as the Solid Rock U.M church since March 27, 1927. Some of her fondest memories date back to when she was teaching Sunday School and helping with Bible school. She will always be remembered  as an excellent example of Christian Leadership and faithfulness.

 

Loving Survivors Include: Daughter – Dianne (Husband, Thomas) Reidy, Grand Haven, MI,  Grandsons – Scott (Karen) Elliott, Jacksonville, FL, Jeffrey (Renee) Elliott, Dothan, AL, Great Grandchildren – Emma Grace Elliott,  Michael Edward Elliott, and Garrett Elliott.

 

 

She was preceded in death by her Father – Edgar John Ellerman, Mother – Annie (McCrum) Ellerman,

Brother – Max Ellerman, Sister – Mary Louise Crawford, and Former Husband – John Christner.

 

 

Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Heritage Pointe Applegate Chapel 801 Huntington Ave. Warren on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

 

A service to celebrate her life will be at Heritage Pointe Applegate Chapel  at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 28, 2017 with the Rev. Ed Clark   officiating. Interment will be at a later date.

 

Preferred memorials:  Solid Rock United Methodist Scholarship Fund
