Roger Dale Irvin, Sr., 67, of Peru, passed away at 1:50 P.M., Monday, July 18, 2016 at Marion General Hospital, Marion, IN. He was born in Kenvir, KY on July 2, 1949 the son of Shelby and Louisa White Irvin. Roger was a 1967 graduate of Evarts High School in Harlan, KY and a retired Square D employee. He was a US Army Veteran and served 3 tours of duty in Viet Nam in the 1960’s. He was a combat engineer and a training NCO in Jungle Warfare Training. He was a survivor the TET Offensive and was a disabled veteran as a result of injuries received during his third tour of duty in Viet Nam. His military decoration include the Viet Nam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Over Seas Service Medal, the Viet Nam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Sharp Shooter Badge. Roger was a member and currently serving as Commander of Miami County VFW Post 2067. He was also a member of the Peru Miami Masonic Lodge, the Eagles and the Moose. He is survived by his mother Louisa Kiefer of Peru, sons Roger D. Irvin, Jr. and his wife Lalenia of Kokomo and William Irvin and his wife Allison of Chillicothe, IL, grandchildren Levi Irvin, Madelynn Irvin, Zoe Irvin and Griffin Irvin and a sister Sally Smith of Sheridan, MI. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother David Michael Irvin and a grandson, Logan Irvin. A service celebrating the life of Roger Dale Irvin, Sr. will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 22, 2016 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru with Pastor David Welch officiating. Burial will be in Mt Hope Cemetery, with Military Graveside Services provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit. Family and friends will gather from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Disabled American Veteran
