Mr. Robert W. “Bob” Gabbard, 84, of Van Buren, IN, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 at his home in Van Buren.  He was born on Thursday, June 18, 1931, in Stergon, KY to Alford D. and Maud (Strong) Gabbard.  Bob was a US Army Korean War Veteran, serving from 1949-1952.  He married Geneva (Tyree) Gabbard on Saturday, November 29, 1952 in Jellico, TN; she passed away on December 8, 2000 in Van Buren.  Bob retired from the Marion Plant of GM CPC in 1997 after 40 years of service. He was a member of the UAW, Van Buren American Legion Post #368 and the GM Sympathy Club. Bob attended the Country Side Chapel Church in rural Van Buren for the past 20 years.

 

Loving survivors include: Daughter – Betty E. Moore, Van Buren, IN, Sons – Michael (Debra) Gabbard, Marion, IN, Mitchell D. (Laurel) Gabbard, Marion, IN, Robbie (Teena) Gabbard, Marion, IN, 11 Grandchildren – Michael Gabbard, Jr., Shawn (Mary) Gabbard, Jessie Gabbard, Kris Friermood, Kristy (Stan) Carlson, Kelsey (Caleb) McQuillin, Cody (Christy) Gabbard, Scott (Courtney) Gabbard, Amy Gabbard, Brandon (Alisha) Scott, Brittney Scott, 16 Great Grandchildren and Brother – Hargis (Huda) Gabbard, McKee, KY.

 

He was preceded in death by his: Father – Alford D. Gabbard, Mother – Maud (Strong) Gabbard, Wife – Geneva (Tyree) Gabbard, Sister – Mable Hardy and Brother – Virgil Gabbard.

 

Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home 201 N Main Street Van Buren on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

 

A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be at Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 with Pastor Eddie Judd officiating.  Interment will follow in the Van Buren Cemetery in Van Buren.  The US Army will conduct military graveside rites.

 

Arrangements are being handled by Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home in Van Buren.
