Robert Valjean Anderson, age 89, of Marion, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 in Suite Living, Marion, Indiana.
Robert (also known as Val) was born September 14, 1927 in Meir, Indiana to the late Robert Lincoln and Mary M. (Spencer) Anderson. He married Vivian VanGordon on October 6, 1950, and she survives. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as a machine operator at Dana Corporation and was also an insurance agent at Empire Insurance, now known as Commonwealth Insurance.
Robert was a member of the Dana Corporation Union and the bicycle club Marion Y Wheelman. He enjoyed bicycling, bowling, square dancing and building model planes.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian M. Anderson of Marion; five children, R. Vincent Anderson (Lois) of Union, Michigan, ValRae M. Hills (James) of Sugarland, Texas, R. Valjon Anderson (Wendy) of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, R. Vaughn Anderson (Patti) of Ashburn, Virginia, and R. VanGordon Anderson (Mary) of Edmond, Oklahoma; a sister, Sharon Diane Humes (Ronald) of Goshen, Indiana; fifteen grandchildren, Richard Valjean Anderson, Jennifer Lynn Guard, Meredith Wiley, Dale Wiley, Olivia Benthin, Aaron Wiley, Shannon Graham, Beth Chiaverotti, Paul Robert Anderson, Julie Anderson, Patrick Anderson, Dolly Anderson, Wendy Cowley, Doug Anderson, Katie Black; many great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rae Mona Shuck.
Funeral Services will be held at noon Monday, July 17, 2017 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
Friends and family may call from 10:00 a.m. until services at noon in the funeral home prior to funeral services.
Burial will follow funeral services in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
