Robert V. “Bob” Richards, 92, passed away peacefully, early Saturday morning, May 27, 2017. He was born in Delaware County, the son of the late John E. and Agnes (Waymire) Richards.

Bob, who was a 1943 graduate of Gaston High School, Gaston, was a farmer in Delaware County all of his life, before retiring in 1989. He was a substitute mail carrier for 25 years, a member of the Wes-Del Community School Board, Gaston Lions Club, Board of Directors at Matthews Feed and Grain, Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Hartford City. He was an honorary member of the Matthews Cemetery Board.

Mr. Richards served in the United States Army as Military Police in Japan from 1945-1946.

Bob married the love of his life, Helen L. Boles on January 18, 1947, in Delaware County.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Helen Richards, Gaston; a daughter, Barbara (Tom) Dorton, Gaston; a son, Tom (Karen) Richards, Fairmount; grandchildren, Angie (Chip) Camp, Rockford, IL, Eric (Brittany) Dorton, Muncie, Andrea Dorton, Gaston, Ryan (Laura) Richards, Gaston, Lori (Jason) White, Upland; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Donna (Don) Johnson, Gaston; a nephew, Fred (Cheryl) Richards; a niece, Wanda (Mike) Carter; a step-niece, Joanne Troutner; several great nieces and nephews; and several great great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Mearl Richards.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 300 S. Angling Pike, Hartford City, Indiana, 47348, or to the Matthews Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 61, Matthews, Indiana, 46957.

Visitation will be from 3-8 pm, Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Armes Hunt Funeral Home, Jones-Smith Chapel. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Armes Hunt Funeral Home, Jones-Smith Chapel, 259 N. Main St., Upland, Indiana, 46989.

Interment with Military Rites will be in Matthews Cemetery, Matthews.

Arrangements are entrusted to Armes Hunt Funeral Home, Jones-Smith Chapel, 259 N. Main St., Upland, Indiana.
