Robert L. “Bob” Heffelfinger, age 89, of Huntington, passed away at 11:20 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

There will be no visitation or funeral services.

Bob was born October 6, 1927 in Huntington to Laverne and Chloella (Lash) Heffelfinger. He joined the Merchant Marines at age 16 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Joan Roush on May 15, 1946 in Huntington; they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before her passing in 2007. Bob joined the Huntington Police force in 1950, retiring in 1972. He was a member of Central Christian Church and belonged to Amity Lodge No. 483. He was an avid fisherman and a euchre player hard to beat. He loved to embellish stories to pull one’s leg. He was loyal to and protective of his family and friends, always welcoming and uplifting.

He is survived by his four children, Jeffrey R. Heffelfinger of Huntington, Linda (Dan) Schroeder of Fort Wayne, Kathleen A. (Lyman Anderson) Stewart of New Haven, and John W. Heffelfinger of Huntington; nine grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are three siblings, Max Heffelfinger, Mary Miller, and Betty Bawers, all of Huntington. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan, and a sister, Colleen.
