Robert Jack Barnett

Mr. Robert Jack Barnett, age 96, of Murrells Inlet, and formerly of Huntington, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Hope Arbor Assisted Living Home.

Mr. Barnett was born on April 23, 1921 as the son of the late Mr. James Leonard Barnett and the late Mrs. Florence Marie Maddox Barnett. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Jean Roush Barnett, and by a son, Ricky Barnett. Mr. Barnett was a Master Mason, and a WWII Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. A retired Huntington City Police Officer, Mr. Barnett served his community for 28 years, and was a member of the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police). He loved sightseeing, water aerobics, and gambling. Mr. Barnett truly loved life, and had a contagious smile. He was affectionately known as “Barney” to some, and to others as “Smiley”.

Mr. Barnett is survived by three Daughters, Sandra (& Bruce) Pressler of Murrells Inlet, Becky (& Joe) Underwood of Huntington, IN, and Karen (& Jim) Bir of Huntington, IN ; a Son, James L. Barnett of Tempe, AZ ; his Longtime Companion, Louise Walter of Huntington, IN ; 9 Grandchildren ; & 29 Great Grandchildren.

Memorial Services for Mr. Barnett will be conducted Friday, October 27, 2017 at 12 Noon at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana with military graveside rites performed by VFW Post #2689 of Huntington. The family will receive friends at Bailey-Love Mortuary from 10:00 am until the service hour.
