Richard Lee Lines, 64, Marion, was called home to Heaven at 12:43 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Marion General Hospital with his loving family at his side. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on May 20, 1952, to Burl and Patricia (Adkins) Lines.

Richard attended Marion Community Schools and was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Marion. Richard was a United States Army Veteran, and he completed his Basic Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and his A.I.T. at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. He served 10 months in Germany and 14 months in Vietnam and was in the 101st Airborne Division. Richard was a member of the D.A.V., and he retired from the V.A. Northern Indiana Healthcare System after over 20 years of service in Environmental Management Services.

On June 24, 1996, Richard married Cindy McWhirt. He enjoyed watching the Turner Classic Movie Channel and ME-TV. Perry Mason, MASH, and Andy Griffith were some of his favorite old shows to watch. He also enjoyed listening to talk shows and ballgames on his radio. Richard also loved watching sports, especially football. He would be so happy when football season would return. He especially admired Peyton Manning, and he followed the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos. Richard enjoyed basketball and baseball, too. Even after he became ill, he still watched the Chicago Cubs play.

Richard loved to sit on his front porch and spend time talking and drinking coffee with his friend, Monte. He and Cindy would sit on the back deck and watch the birds and squirrels. Brown County was one of his favorite places to visit, especially in the Fall.

Richard liked going out to eat at Applebee’s. He enjoyed cooking and was well known for his bean salad, scalloped potatoes and ham, and his homemade pizzas. Anyone acquainted with Richard knew he was very patriotic and that he knew a lot about politics. He made sure that he voted at each election. Other interests included collecting coins and anything old, as well as hunting and fishing. More than anything, though, Richard loved his grandchildren and spending time with them.
