Richard J. Augspurger, age 95, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 7:05 pm at Millers Merry Manor, Huntington.  He graduated from Roanoke High School, worked at Roanoke Coil & Engineering for 3 years, then served in the US Navy during WWII.  He worked at Dana Corp for 3 years, then earned his BA from Huntington College in 1954 and his MS from Indiana University in 1957.  He worked as a teacher in Aboite Township and Huntington County schools and the Developmental Center.  He was a member of Christ’s United Methodist Church, Roanoke, where he held various church offices. He was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and the National Education Association.

 

Richard was born January 9, 1922, in Wabash, the son of Victor Robert and Nina (Weaver) Augspurger.  On February 9, 1946, he married his beloved wife of 57 years Donnabelle Jacobs in Zanesville.  She passed away June 26,2003.  He is survived by a daughter Patti Augspurger Sands of Roanoke, a son Terry Joe Augspurger of Fort Wayne, 2 brothers Phil and Mark Augspurger and 2 sisters Sally Loehr and Shirley Grzegorek all of Newburgh, IN.  He was preceded in death by a brother James Augspurger and 3 sisters Nancy Smith, Mary Catherine Paul and Barbara Spindler.

 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 12, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes and Wednesday September 13 from 10-11am preceding the 11:00 am funeral service at the funeral home.  Pastor Joshua Johnson of Christ’s United Methodist Church will officiate.  Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.  Roanoke American Legion Post #160 will provide graveside military honors.
