Richard A. Poling

Richard A. Poling, 82, Marion, died at the Marion VA Hospital at 8:35 a.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2017. He was born in Marion on December 26, 1934, to the late Ray and Iva E. (Bartlett) Poling.

Richard graduated from Van Buren High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served in the 32nd Infantry Division. He achieved the rank of Spec 4 and received ribbons for Sharpshooter-Carbine and Marksman-Rifle. Following his military service, he worked at Essex Wire & Cable, where he was a line worker for 39 years. He was also a volunteer fireman with Mill Township for ten years and a member of American Legion Post 10.

He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Alan (Mindy) Poling, Fort Wayne; daughter, Kelley Poling, Gas City; grandchildren, Joshua David Poling, Chase Jordan Poling, and Cody Alan Poling; and two sisters, Ruth Kegley, Marion, and Jane Merideth, Jonesboro.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Charles, Glenn, Edwin Jr., Roscoe, and Russell Poling; sister, Betty Spiker; and daughter, Joanna Elaine.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2017, at Integrity Funeral Care, 2901 S. Washington St., Marion, IN.

Services to celebrate Richard’s life will begin at 1 p.m. with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.
