Reverend Leonard Eugene “Gene” Madigan, 76, of Oglethorpe, Georgia, died peacefully in Americus, Georgia, at 6:20 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017. He was born on November 6, 1940, in Fairmount, Indiana, to Leonard F. and June E. Madigan, and he married Olive Annette Stanton on March 11, 1962.

In 1981, Gene graduated from Warner Southern College in Lake Wales, Florida, with a ministry degree in pastoral studies. He went on to pastor Church of God churches in Georgia, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas. He loved singing, camping, and taking care of a vegetable garden and greenhouse.

Gene is survived by his wife of 55 years, Olive; four children, Charles and Evelyn Madigan, Montgomery, Alabama, Ida and Mike Woolums, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Paula and Gary Laughlin, Piggott, Arkansas, and Rev. Leonard and Jennifer Madigan, II, Dexter, Missouri; three siblings, Mary Catherine and Clarence Zanger, Shelbyville, Indiana, David and Joyce Madigan, Fairmount, Indiana, and Betty Madigan, Marion, Indiana; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruth Fletcher; and two brothers, Robert Alexander and Francis Madigan.

Visitation will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Integrity Funeral Care, 2901 S. Washington St., Marion, Indiana. Gene’s funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Leonard E. Madigan, II, officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gene’s life.
