Rev. James L. Lund, 83, of Peru passed away at 12:08 AM Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne. He was born in Peru on May 12, 1933 the son of Norvil Elias and Dorthea Lee DePuy Lund. Jim married Phyllis B. Shafer at the First Brethren Church in Mexico on July 12, 1959 and she preceded him in death on February 13, 2005. He married Dorris Frazier on November 7, 2009 at the Sharon Baptist Church in Flora, IN and she survives. As a young boy, Jim worked as a paper boy and later worked in the advertising department for the Peru Tribune. He was a graduate of Peru High School and Manchester College. He received his Master of Arts Degree in Education from Ball State University in Muncie, IN and his Master of Divinity Degree from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL. He retired from the Peru Community Schools after teaching for 46 years. He was a Pastor serving the American Baptist Churches in Mexico, IN, Fairmount, IN and the Sharon Baptist Church in Flora, IN. In 2006 he was designated “Pastor Emeritus” with Distinction of the Sharon Baptist Church. As a young man, he was active in DeMolay and later in numerous organizations including The Masons, IOOF and the Knights of Pythias. He served as President of the Miami County Retired Teachers Association and was a recipient of the Fifty Year Award of Gold given by the Grand Lodge of Masons of Indiana and the Peru Miami Lodge #67 F & AM. Surviving in addition to his wife Dorris are daughters Leasa Ann Culp and her husband Brad of Johns Creek, GA, Rebecca Lynn Zepick and her husband Kent of Indianapolis, IN and Lora Lee Dice and her husband Lester of Chambersburg, PA, step-children Jon Frazier (Lisa) of Marion, IN and Stephanie Ahlborn of Ft. Wayne, IN; grandchildren include Zachary, Alexa & Lauren Culp, Caleb & Conner Zepick, and Ashley & Brittany Dice. Step-grandchildren include Josh, Savinni & Macy Frazier and Serena Ahlborn, seven step-great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Phyllis, brothers William Copeland & John Lund and a step-sister Madelyn Blakeman. A service celebrating the life of Rev. James L. Lund will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Oakdale Baptist Church, 348 Chili Avenue, Peru, IN with Pastors Gary Britton and Robert Stuck officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peru, IN. Family and friends will gather from 4:00-8:00 PM Friday at the Oakdale Baptist Church. Commencing at 7:30 PM Friday, there will be a Masonic Service followed by an IOOF Service and ending with a Knights of Pythias Service.
