Raymond “Bud” Earl Spaulding, 89, Marion, died at 9:15 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016, at his home, surrounded by family. He was born on October 30, 1926, in Marion, Indiana to the late Paul and Gertrude (Holly) Spaulding. He married Joan Hefner on November 22, 1972, she survives.

Bud served his country with his involvement in the United States Navy from 1944-1946. During World War II, he was stationed on troop ship, Arlington AP-174, where he served as first class gunner’s mate assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Bud earned a Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. Following his time with the Navy, he worked in maintenance for a short time at Malleable Iron before ending a long career with RCA after 36-years with his retirement. Bud also retired after 17 years with the Center Township Fire Department, where he was formerly an assistant fire chief.

In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, bowling, playing horseshoes, and working in the woods. Bud was known for his love of helping people, as he would do anything for anyone, his spectacular voice when it came to singing, and passing out large amounts of homemade candy around Christmas to his neighbors and friends. Bud also enjoyed working outside in the garden. He was a member of AmVets Grant County Post 5 and American Legion Post 10. He attended Grace Community Church of Marion. The most important thing to Bud, was his family and enjoying time with them, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of 43 years, he is survived by his daughters, Marge (Donnie) Ashley, Marion, Mona (Dale) Stepp, Gas City; step-sons, Dale (Sherry) Lee, Marion (Wells Co.), Robert (Linda) Lee, Marion (Wells Co.); siblings, Markie Harstine (Pete Harris), Marion, Wayne (Mary) Spaulding, Jonesboro; 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchilren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Virginia Eib, Vivian Pherson, Evalyne Furnish, and Norma Ferguson.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

A Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at the funeral home, with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory.
