Phyllis was born in Marion on April 23, 1926 to the late Harold L. and D. Louise (Russell) Ernst. She passed away on November 2, 2016 in Miller’s Merry Manor, Marion.
Phyllis was a 1944 graduate of Marion High School. After high school she enrolled in the Methodist Radiological Technology School, Indianapolis and graduated in 1947. She worked as an x-ray technician for St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. Phyllis married Dr. Frederick C. Poehler on May 6, 1963. Dr. Poehler preceded her in death on November 23, 1992. For many years Phyllis lived in Ft. Wayne and returned to Marion in 2010.
Phyllis was an Episcopalian and later found her church home with First United Methodist Church where she faithfully attended. In her free time she enjoyed antiques and traveling.She had a great sense of humor, an eccentric personality and positively lived life to its fullest.
Phyllis is survived by four children, John H. (Katherine) Poehler, Kailua, Hawaii; David G. (Leann) Poehler, Marion; Nancy S. (Mark) Ort, Yellow Creek Lake, Indiana; Matthew F. Poehler, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, Lauren Poehler, Meagan Poehler, Nick Poehler, Lindsay (David) Galloway, Matt Poehler, Aaron (Jeanette) Poehler, Shannon (Ron) Brown, Kendra (Abby) Kinworthy, Justin Poehler and Kristen Poehler; three great-grandchildren, Brody Brown, Charley Brown and Claire Poehler.
She is also preceded in death by her brother, Boyd J. Ernst and great-granddaughter, Bailey M. Galloway.
In accordance with Phyllis’ last wishes there will be private services. Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 South Washington Street, Marion, Indiana was entrusted with the arrangements.
