Phyllis Jean “Tootsie” Hollingshead

Phyllis Jean “Tootsie” Hollingshead, 92, of Hartford City, Indiana, died at 1:01 am, Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Hartford City. She was born January 7, 1925 in Hartford City, to Edward and Cecil Fern (Barker) Tritle.

She grew up in Hartford City and graduated from Hartford City High School in 1943. During her junior year, she met Frank Alfred Hollingshead, who was from Wabash, Indiana. They were married on February 6, 1946, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hartford City, after his service in the army during WWII, and made their home in Wabash. While there, Frank and two other men started a paper factory, known as Wabash Paper Coating. Phyllis and Frank’s only child Jane Ann was born on January 21, 1953. She graduated from Wabash High School and later moved to Columbus, Ohio. Phyllis devoted her life to being a good wife to her husband, Frank, and a loving mother to her daughter, Jane. She also loved her little poodles of which she had several. Her last little poodle “Daisy” is still living with her cousin today. Phyllis and Frank had a wonderful life together, traveling many places and enjoying each other’s company. Following his death on June 10, 1981, Phyllis moved to Columbus to live with her daughter Jane, who died on December 29, 2014. She then moved back to Hartford City, where she stayed at Miller’s Merry Manor until her death. The family is so grateful for the many kindnesses that the Miller employees showed to Phyllis during her life there.

She is survived by her cousins, Sarah Lou (David) Jones and Michael (Tammy Newman) Jones, all of Hartford City, and Thomas (Patty) Jones of Upland, Indiana. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday, September 18, 2017 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Rev. Jonathan Cornell officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Wabash Presbyterian Church, 123 W. Hill Street, Wabash, Indiana 46992.
