Phyllis J. Southern, 75, Marion, died at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2016, at Wesleyan Health Care, Marion. She was born in Wardell, MO, to the late Roy W. and Ruth A. (Brooks) Treadwell. She married Ronald Lee Southern in 1968, and he preceded her in death in 2000.
Phyllis was a 1959 graduate of Hayti Central High School. She retired from RCA after 40 years and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. She has been a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church since she was 18 years old. Phyllis enjoyed reading, walking, playing cards, particularly Spades, and bowling. She bowled in both local and traveling leagues. She loved caring for her plants, and she loved dogs, especially her dog, Patches. Phyllis had a beautiful singing voice. She was loving, outspoken, witty, and to the point. Everyone always knew where you stood with her.
Survivors include her son, Masharne (Angela) Southern, Marion; grandchildren, Trenton Southern, Justin Albertson, and Carissa Albertson; siblings, Robert (Linda) Treadwell, ID, Roy (Barbara) Treadwell, AL, Cheryl Lenoir Treadwell, Marion, Margie Horton, Anderson, Ruth Taylor, Indianapolis, Faye (Jim) Tibbs, IL, and Rodger Treadwell, Anderson; mother-in-law, Minnie Southern; special uncle, Evans Treadwell; special aunt, Eula Treadwell; and caregiver and special friend, Marie Jones.
In addition to her husband and parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her sister, Rosemary Scott.
Friends and family may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1204 W. 14th St., Marion, IN.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor C.L. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park, Marion.
