Peggy J. Richards

Peggy J. Richards, 66, Marion, died at Rolling Meadows in LaFontaine at 1:05 p.m. on Thursday, November 23, 2017. She was born on July 20, 1951, to the late H.B. and Betty (Givens) Gann.

In the spring of 1970, a blind date had been set up for Peggy to meet a young gentleman, Paul Randall “Randy” Richards. It didn’t take long for the two of them to know that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. On November 28, 1970, Peggy married the loved her life, and she was a devoted wife to him for almost 47 years.

Peggy was a teacher for 20 years and a professor at IU-Kokomo (5 years), Anderson University, and Ivy Tech. Her later endeavors led her to become a broker-owner of Metro Realty, along with her sister, Linda Sparks. Not one to kick up her feet for too long, Peggy and Randy became the owners of Sports Lake Campground in Upland and managed the campground for 25 years.

Peggy wrote several published short stories and magazine articles on porcelain dolls, about which she taught classes for over ten years. She also directed and performed in many plays at Marion Civic Theater, as well as in the churches she attended over the years which included Twin City Bible Baptist, Westview Wesleyan, and New Hope Baptist. She was a faithful and loving servant of the Lord and a faithful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her loving husband, Randy; son, Ryan (Danielle) Richards, Marion; daughter, Janelle (Shannon) Richards, Bakersfield, California; grandchildren, Zoe Richards, Marion, and Eva Richards, Marion; brother, Harold Gann; and sister, Linda Sparks.

The family will receive visitors from 4-6 p.m. with Peggy’s memorial service beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
