Peggy J. Chittum

Peggy J. Chittum, age 87, went home to be with the Lord to start her heavenly journey on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at home surrounded by her children.

She was born on May 31, 1930 in Wabash County to Carl H. Elbel and Grace Long Elbel. She enjoyed working in the garden, fishing while living in Florida during the winter months, hosting fish fries from their catch with her friends and family whom Peggy loved deeply and unconditionally. Our hearts will forever cherish her as the loving woman she was to family and friends.

Peggy is survived by son Mike E. and Cricket Brown Peru, daughter Michelle and Dave Houser of Peru, step­son Brad and Sandra Chittum Peru. Grandchildren include Jason and Kelly Sturch of Nebraska, Trinity Brown of Arizona, Shane and Nancy Douglass of Illinois; and step grandchildren Jared and Kristy VanLue of Nevada, Amber and Eddie Johnston of Indiana, Trevor Chittum of Indiana, and Kaitlin Chittum of Indiana.

Peggy’s family expanded to great-grandchildren: Austin, Adrianna, Jackie, Seth Jaime, and Angelina, and included several great-great-grandchildren. Peggy is also survived by several cousins in the Wabash and Peru area.

Peggy was a member of the First Baptist Church Peru. She married Lyle Brown on February 15, 1954, and married Ted Chittum on October 8, 1976.  He preceded her in death on February 21, 1995.

Peggy was a member of the Logansport Shrine Guild, Eastern Star of Gilead, IN, Moose Ladies auxiliary, Legion Ladies auxiliary, VFW Ladies auxiliary, and Eagles Ladies auxiliary.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents Carl & Grace Elbel, husbands Lyle and Ted, and several cousins,  aunts, and uncles.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana from 10am — 2pm.  Burial service will follow immediately at the chapel at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru, IN with Pastor Wayne Balmer officiating.
