Patricia Ann Benedict, 63, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 2:30 pm, Monday, September 18, 2017 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. She was born October 21, 1953 in French Lick, Kentucky to James I. and May (Stidham) Burkhart.
Patty was a 1972 graduate of Marion High School. She married Paul William “Bill” Benedict in Marion, Indiana on January 29, 1992. She was a nursing assistant at the VA Hospital in Marion 33 years. Patty enjoyed cooking, canning, hunting, fishing, sewing, and doing crafts.
She is survived by her husband, Paul William “Bill” Benedict of Wabash, three children, Connie Beck of Marion, Shanda (James) Headley of Wabash, and Paul W. Benedict, Jr. of Hamilton, Ohio, her father, James I. Burkhart of Marion; eleven grandchildren, Jordan Byrd, Richard Byrd III, Katelynn Byrd, Pacey Benedict, Hayley Benedict, Elizabeth (Levi) Moore, Paige Headley, James Headley, Jr., Kyle (Amanda) Byrd, Victoria Day, and Ashley (John) Sonnenburg, special adopted grandson, Randy King; 12 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Brenda (Lance) Buckley of Wabash, Steve Burkhart, Melinda (James) Bradley, and James Burkhart, all of Marion. She was preceded in death by her mother, May Burkhart, and her son, Richard “Ricky” Byrd who died February 5, 2012.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday September 22, 2017 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor Terry Hinds officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 4-8 pm Thursday, at the funeral home.
