Oscar “Ray” Johnson

Oscar “Ray” Johnson, 87, Marion, passed away peacefully Friday evening at 8:50 p.m. on September 15, 2017. He was born on August 11, 1930, in Thompkinsville, Kentucky, to Oltie and Alice (Osteen) Johnson.

Ray was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean War. After his first two years of service, he enlisted for another three years. After five years of service, he had achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. Ray then went on to work in the mobile home business, where he became a well-known serviceman and moved many mobile homes.

He was well known as “the man who could put a trailer in an impossible space”. He loved camping, fishing, and making trips to Kentucky, especially with his grandson, Josh. Ray was also very close to his youngest daughter, Sharon, and her daughter, Amber.

Ray married Ruby Denham on December 27, 1952, and they shared 53 years together until she passed on May 20, 2006. They had five kids, Ricky, Sue, Sandi, Steve, and Sharon, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Ricky; grandson, Merrill; and great-grandson, Brayden.

The family will receive visitors from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

A memorial service for Ray will begin immediately following visitation at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Committal services with military honors will be held in Marion National Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2017.
