Oris B. Hight, 97, Marion, went to be with the Lord in his home at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2017. He was born in Wetaug, Illinois, to the late Walter E. and Nora H. (Heather) Hight. He married Nina M. Randolph on June 12, 1938, and she preceded him in death on June 7, 2007.

A U.S. Army veteran from 1944-45, Oris served during World War II and achieved the rank of private. In 1981, he retired from GM, where he worked as a welder for 17 years. He had also worked several other jobs over the years.

Oris was an avid fisherman and often traveled to Florida where he fished at his lake home. He was also a NASCAR fan, with his favorite driver being Jeff Gordon. Above all, Oris loved his family and especially enjoyed the time he spent spoiling his grandchildren.

Survivors include his son, Jerry D. (Sue) Hight, Marion; grandchildren, Randy (Lori) Hight, Crestwood, Kentucky, and Shannon (Michael) Walker, Jonesboro; great-grandchildren, Gabby, Ryan, Brianna, and Taylor; great-great-granddaughter, Emalynn; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will also be missed by his church family at Sunnycrest Baptist, where he was a member.

In addition to his parents and his loving wife of 68 years, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Candy Hight; siblings, Fred, Dora, Russ, Ted, Carl, Ruby, Helen, Glen, Harley, Jesse, Lester, and Ralph; and several extended family and friends.

In accordance with the family’s wishes, services are private with burial to follow at Grant Memorial Park.
