OCRA Designates Huntington County’s Brickley as Indiana Site Certified Prime

INDIANAPOLIS – Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch joined officials from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) to announce the designation of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation’s Brickley Site, as Indiana Site Certified (ISC) Prime.

The ISC certification program validates sites that are ready for economic development. The Indiana Site Certified Prime, which builds upon the Gold tier by requiring 30 contiguous acres, a location no more than 2.5 miles from a state highway and an archaeological investigation. In addition, the local unit of government, lead economic development organization, or regional economic development corporation must own the property or an option must be held with the owner.

“It was so exciting to be with everyone to celebrate Huntington County’s success and congratulate the team on earning the Prime designation, the highest tier of certification offered by the State,” said Lt. Governor Crouch, who also serves as Indiana’s Secretary of Rural Development. “And not only that, but Brickley is now celebrated as the only Prime Certified Site in Northeast Indiana. Thanks goes to each and every one of the local leaders who are playing a key role in the growth of the community.”

The 80 acre Brickley Site is located in the Town of Warren’s Tax Increment Financing or TIF District off of Interstate 69 and US 24. According to their application, the site could be used for the development of facilities such as warehousing, light manufacturing, or heavy manufacturing.

“We recognize that a lot of time, energy, and collaboration goes into earning the Indiana Site Certified designation, especially Prime,” said OCRA Executive Director Jodi Golden. “I commend the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation and their local partners for working together to make the Brickley property ready for development, which will be a great asset to the local community for years to come.”

Indiana Site Certified is led by OCRA in partnership with the state’s Fast Access Site Team (FAST), which is comprised of multiple state agencies including the Indiana Department of Transportation(INDOT), Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC).

The goal of the ISC program is to assist Indiana cities and towns:

  • Illustrate the communities‘ commitment to economic growth
  • Mitigate risks for businesses who want to locate or expand their operations in Indiana
  • Serve as a marketing tool to promote sites that are ready for development

Communities of any size may apply for the designation through OCRA. Applications for certification are accepted on a rolling basis. The first step is to contact your regionally based OCRA Community Liaison who will be able to offer current program details, evaluate readiness to proceed, and provide application instructions.
