Norma “Jean” Fortney, 79, died at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017, at Wesleyan Healthcare Center in Marion. She was born in Owingsville, Kentucky, on January 25, 1938, to the late Raymond and Sarah (Daily) Daugherty. Jean married her soulmate, Donald L. Fortney, on July 6, 1977, and he preceded her in death on July 24, 2013, after 36 years of marriage.

After moving to Indiana and residing in Gas City for many years, Jean worked at Ball-Foster in Marion. She retired in 2000 after 30 years of service. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and family was always first for her. Jean loved to laugh and enjoyed life to the fullest, and she especially loved joking with others. She was a member of First Christian Church in Gas City.

She is survived by her children, Michelle Harrell, Tullahoma, Tennessee, Timothy W. Crouch, Gas City, Brad A. (Kim) Fortney, Denver, Indiana, and Teri J. Miller, Gas City; grandchildren, Brooke Stephens, Adam Crouch, Austin (Tiffany) Rausch, Sean Crouch, Alex Woenkhaus, and Kristopher Fortney; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Mia, Brooklyn, Carson, and Zoey; two sisters, Wanda Murdock, Kokomo, and Ada B. (Don) Yeakle, Jonesboro; brother, Ray (Susie) Daugherty, Marion; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Jim Murdock.

The family will receive visitors on Monday, July 17, 2017, from 2:30-4:30 p.m., with Jean’s funeral service immediately following at 4:30 p.m. at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City. Pastor Dave Shephard will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.

The preferred memorial of choice is First Christian Church, 401 E. N. D St., Gas City, IN 46933.
