Myrtle L. Peterson, 87, Marion, died at 6:19 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at North Woods Village, Kokomo. She was born in Hartford City, Indiana, to the late James and Leona (Hall) Jones. She married Charles C. Peterson on July 4, 1948, and he preceded her in death on October 4, 1984.
Myrtle retired in 1992 from the shipping department of the Wesleyan Church headquarters in Marion. She attended Upland Church of the Nazarene and was a long-time member of Sweetser Wesleyan Church. Myrtle was also a member of Sweetser Homemakers. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, and collecting turtles. Myrtle also loved traveling, especially with her sisters, and visiting her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Linda (Billy) Roe, Seattle, Washington, Gary Peterson, Sims, Darrell (Sandy) Peterson, Cicero, Julie (Rick Jones) Hawkins, Sims, Bruce (Patricia) Peterson, Converse, and Brenda (Jesse) Cottrell, Marion; sister, Mary Besser; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her loving husband and parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Phillip James; and siblings, Orpha, Opal, Sally, Norma, Chuck, Alvin, Bob, and Jake.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory, Marion.
