Murta J. Douglass, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at her home in Kokomo, Indiana.

She was born in Peru on September 16, 1936 to the late Harold Black and Garnett (Resler) Black.

Murta married the late Clinton Forest Douglass on May 2, 1965. They have been the love of each other’s lives since then.  Murta and Clinton would have celebrated their 51st anniversary in May.

She is survived by her son, Dan (Darla) Miller of Mexico, In.  Also, her daughters: Janet Miller, Kokomo; and Marcia J. Phillips, Peru.  Also, her son Ralph (Dalena) Fershee, Michigan.  She is also survived by her step-children: Brandon (Jannice) Douglass, Peru; Bryan (Tammy) Douglass, Daleville, In; and Anita Goodman, Lafontaine, In.  Also, 15 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.  Also, her siblings: David (Angie) Black, Craig (Eva) Black, James (Pat) Black, and Janet (David) Sparling. Also, many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Along with her parents and her husband, Murta was preceded in death by one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.

Murta was an extremely strong woman and a member of Center Chapel Church of the Brethren.  She was a caretaker/cook for 25 years at the Miami County Fairground.  Murta was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who touched the lives of many.  She loved angels, lambs, and her cat named “Miss Kitty”.  She was an excellent cook, loved country music (her favorite singer was Alan Jackson), and being with her family and friends – especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00pm on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Miami County Fairground.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Miami County Fairground, with Al Peck, Chris White, and Rick Stone officiating.  Burial will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico, In.
