Michael Ryan Miller, 36, died at 7:11 pm on Saturday, July 1, 2017, in his residence. He was born in Marion, Indiana on June 29, 1981, to Mike and Patty (Elkins) Miller. He was a 1999 graduate of Mississinewa High School and also attended Ball State University and Mt. San Jacinto Community College in California.

Michael enlisted in the US Marines in January 2006, and was honorably discharged in September 2013. During his time in the marines he served as a rifleman and later as a rifleman instructor at Parris Island. He also completed one tour of Iraq in 2008. Michael was awarded the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (W/1 Star), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Certificate of Commendation (Individual Award), and the Expert Rifle Qualification Badge.

In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by his daughter, Brookellyn Miller (his greatest joy in life); sister, Kasey Miller, Marion; nephew, Raef Biddle; grandparents, Leo and Martha Corey, Marion; daughter’s mother, Inga Miller, California; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Michael was preceded in death by grandparents, Bill and Peggy Elkins, grandfather, Mike Miller; great-grandmother, Norma Grubbs; and aunt, Brenda Wagener.

A private family service will be held for Michael. Burial will follow in Marion National Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, Indiana.
