MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. – Miami County and Four County Counseling Center recently settled in a lawsuit where Miami County has agreed to pay $100,000 to the counseling agency in which the nonprofit mental health organization claimed the county owed it $182,670 in back payments. The agency filed a lawsuit last year alleging the county had failed to pay the required amount since 2004. As a mental health center, the state requires Miami County to annually pay Four County based on a fixed-funding formula levied against the county’s taxable property. Four County President and CEO C.J. Davis said, “It’s very critical we get those dollars to offset our financial losses so we can provide quality care. I’m very glad we were able to settle and move forward on this.” Commissioner Josh Francis said in a press release, ” I’m glad we have been able to work this out and establish procedures for both parties that will allow things to run smoothly moving forward. Everyone involved now understands what is expected from the other.” Four County, which is based in Logansport, has been providing behavioral health and addiction services in north central Indiana since 1975 and in Miami County for over 30 years, where they serve nearly 2,000 residents.
