Max Phylip Weismantel, 91, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at Colonial Oaks Health and Rehab Center, Marion. He was born in Kokomo, IN, to the late Carl and Naomi (Pippinger) Weismantel. In 1943, Max married Norma J. Coffman, and she survives.

Max was a graduate of Kokomo High School, and he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. When he first moved to Marion, Max was an Omar Man. He became co-owner of Western-Dodge, and formerly worked for Howard Chrysler-Plymouth, where he also ran the body shop. He was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as a Trustee, member of Shriner’s—Scooter Patrol, a Jester member, member of the Scottish Rite, officer at the Elks Lodge, and a former Exalted Ruler in Marion.

Max loved to golf, play cards, and travel extensively. He also loved to go salmon fishing with the Shriner’s.

In addition to his wife of 71 years, survivors include his daughter, Eddy (Ed) Dailey, Gas City; son, Brent Weismantel, Anderson; grandchildren, Erik Dailey, Emily Soft, Jennifer Davis, and Joe Weismantel; and great-grandchildren, Blake Dailey, E.J. Soft, Konnar Soft, Aubree Soft, and Lily Davis.

Also preceding Max in death were two sisters and two brothers.

Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. A Masonic Service will begin at 7 p.m.

Services for Max will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016, at First Christian Church with Pastor Dave Shephard officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow at Grant Memorial Park in Marion.
