Max E. Carter, 76, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 10:53 am Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. He was born June 13, 1940 in Grant County, Indiana to Hubert and Virginia (Wiles) Carter.
Max was a 1958 graduate of Wabash High School. He married Margaret “Peg” Rice at the Wabash Christian Church Parsonage on April 30, 1960. He worked at Wabash Alloys in Wabash, retiring after 40 years. Max was a US Air Force veteran. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing on Lake Tippy, and tinkering in the garage. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peg” Carter of Wabash; six children, Larry Coon of Wabash, Gary Carter of Glasgow, Kentucky, Mark (Julie) Coon, Cindy (Barry) Booth, Carol Carter, and Lynn (Darrell) Thompson, all of Wabash; 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; brother, Joe Bill (Sherry) Carter of Fall Brook, California, and sister, Kathy (Richard) Lower of Wabash. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday, October 17, 2016 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor Curt Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 2-6pm Sunday, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Winchester Senior Center.
