Max A. Shafer, age 84, Peru IN passed away at 3:45pm Monday March 28, 2016 at Dukes Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Peru on February 26, 1932. Max was preceded in death by his parents, Arnol and Mildred Bishop Shafer. Max graduated from Jefferson Township. He married Suzanne Eberle Shafer in 1953. He served in the United States Army from 1955-1957. Along with Suzanne, he is survived by four children: Hal Shafer, Peru IN; Kim Wiles (Gerry Wiles), Greenwood AR; Brad Shafer (Peggy Shafer) Peru IN; and Renee Deniston (Jim Deniston), Peru IN. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, one sister Carolyn Wilson (late Harold Wilson), two brothers, Bob Shafer and Harold Shafer (Charlene Shafer).
Max was a lifetime farmer. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, gardening, and planting flowers. He was a member of the Erie United Methodist Church. Max enjoyed time spent with his family, grandkids, and friends.
A viewing will be held from 4PM-7PM on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the funeral home, with Pastor Warrell Law officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Erie United Methodist Church.
