Mavis S. Powell, 95, Marion, died at 4:57 a.m., on Saturday, July 2, 2016 in Colonial Oaks Healthcare. She was born in Eveningshade, Arkansas to the late Homer and Pearl (Rogers) McGuire. She married Orville Powell, and he preceded her in death on May 5, 1963.

Mavis was a homemaker and excellent cook, known for her homemade pies, meatloaf and fried potatoes. She was an avid Marion Giants fan, and held season tickets for many years. She also enjoyed the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Braves.

She is survived by her children; Paul (Charlene) Powell, Marion and Larry (Late Teresa) Powell, Marion, grandchildren; Sarah, Joseph, James, John, Ryan, Brett, Lori, Amy and Paul, great grandchildren; Cody, Damien, Brayton, Jesse, Thomas, Dustin, Joseph, Kevin, Joshua, Christopher, Katie, Wyatt, Mark, Courtney, Madison, Sam, Tyler, Alyssa, Jamie, Shawn and Seth, 15 great great grandchildren, plus many nieces nephews and friends.

Along with her parents and husband, Mavis was preceded in death by her daughter; Gail Bookout, son; Mark Allen Powell, granddaughter; Debra Hart, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Services for Mavis will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Needham Storey Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave. Marion, IN. Burial to follow at Grant Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grant County Humane Society.
