Maurice L. Shenefield

Maurice L. Shenefield, 79, of Akron and formerly of Andrews, passed away Sunday January 31, 2016 at 7:45 pm at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, Indianapolis.  He served in the US Navy and worked as a crane operator at GM for 30 years, retiring in 1995.  He attended Safe Harbor Church in Rochester, was a member of Rochester American Legion, and was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan.

 

Maurice was born July 15, 1936, in Huntington, the son of Richard and Loretta (Peterson) Shenefield.  On January 26, 1963 he married his beloved wife of 53 years Ruth Searles in Huntington and she survives in Akron.  Also surviving are a daughter Penny Small of Claypool, a son Dennis Lee (Amanda) Shenefield of Virginia, 2 brothers Richard “Ed” (Serena) Shenefield of Huntington and Samuel (Carol) Shenefield of Huntington, 2 sisters Madge Rogers of Seymour and Nancy Coverstone of Huntington, 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by 5 brothers Larry, Charlie, Carl, Ray and Mark Shenefield and a sister Barbara Shenefield.

 

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 3 at 11:00 am at Mt. Etna Cemetery.  VFW Post #2689 will provide graveside military honors.
