Mary Rose (Dipilla) Helm, 94, formerly of Peru, IN, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 19, 2017 in Menifee, CA. Mary was born in Peru, on July 2, 1922 the daughter of Antony and Theresa (Pullano) Dipilla. Mary graduated from Peru High School in 1940. After graduating, Mary worked at Kresge Department store. Mary then devoted her time raising her two sons, volunteering her time to the church, her son’s schools, and the Boy Scouts of America in Frankfort. She also worked at the Frankfort Moose. In 1980 she accepted one of the most rewarding and challenging positions of her life as House Director for the Alpha Phi Sorority at Purdue University until she retired in 1991. She loved her time with the Alpha Phis and they remained close to her throughout the rest of her life. Mary then moved to Mount Dora, FL with her sister Cleme Dipilla to enjoy their retirement years. During the 20 years they lived in Florida, she enjoyed traveling and volunteering which included the Eustis Art Museum and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Walter T. Cohee Post 12 in Frankfort, IN, the Alpha Phi Sorority, and the Delta Mu Chapter at Purdue University. Surviving are her sons, Herbert L. Helm, Jr. and his wife Natalie of Menifee, CA, Joseph A. Helm and his wife Kathy of Westminster, CO; two step grandchildren, Kristi (Moe) Kellogg and her husband Beau, Keith Moe and Kyla Krause, and three step great-grandchildren, Breonna Moe, Dillyn and Conor Kellogg. She was preceded in death by her parents Anthony and Theresa Dipilla, Sister Cleme L. Dipilla, Brother Anthony Dipilla, and an infant son. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday March 9, 2017 at St. Charles Catholic Church, 58 West 5th St., Peru with Rev. Adam Mauman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by a rosary at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Alzheimer’s Association
