Mary L. Cooper

Mary L. Cooper, 96, Marion, passed away at 7:09 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Wesleyan Healthcare Center. She was born in Marion on September 8, 1921, to the late Daniel and Bessie (Hiers) Cooper.

Mary was a lifelong resident of Marion and a graduate of Marion High School. She was employed as a secretary at General Tire and retired after 30 years of service.

Although Mary never had any children, she had several nieces and nephews whom she treated as if they were her own. She was very caring and loving to each one of them, and they always looked forward to spending time with her and enjoying the great meals and treats she fixed. Mary enjoyed bowling, fishing, crocheting, sewing, knitting, bird watching, and picking dandelion greens.

Survivors include nieces, Madonna Henderson, Marion, Mae Coble, Marion, Dixie (Roger) Covey, Arkansas, and Mary Ann (Greg) Sweat, Marion; nephews, Jr. Williams, Marion, Ronnie (Debbie) Williams, Marion, and Jacob (Pam) Williams, Marion; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; nephew, Gene “Elmer” Williams; and siblings, Martha Bernice Shook, Cecil Carl Cooper, Russell Cooper, and Betty J. Williams.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Mary’s funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. Great Sweat will be officiating with burial following at Estates of Serenity.
