Mary Jane Forrester

Mary Jane Forrester, 92, of rural Lagro, Indiana, died at 5:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at her home. She was born December 25, 1924 in Lagro, to Mark and Anne (Noonan) Devine.

Mary Jane was a 1942 graduate of Lagro High School. She married George Forrester at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lagro on July 26, 1947; he died October 5, 1995. She was the secretary for Lagro Elementary and Sharp Creek Elementary schools for more than 20 years. Mary Jane was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntington, Indiana, and a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lagro. Her great grandparents were Irish immigrants who came to Lagro to construct the Wabash and Erie Canal. Mary Jane was also a member of the Lagro Century Club and served as treasurer for the Friends of Saint Patrick for several years.

She is survived by four children, John (Gayle) Forrester and Stan (Peggy) Forrester, both of Lagro, Jane (Mike) Hatton of Huntington, and Melissa (Andy) Robertson of Frankfort, Indiana, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, sister, Judy Cleaver of Stuart, Florida, brother, Joe Devine of Lagro, Indiana, and sister-in-law, Mary Jo Devine of Rome City, Indiana. Mary Jane was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Luke and Phil Devine, and her sister, Ellen McAllister.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Lagro, with Father Stephin Colchin officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Lagro.  Friends may call 2-7 p.m. Friday, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, and there will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
